update-fixed it, i can hear a videos audio in the phones silent mode (sound fx off) when using the N900s default player, but not when using mplayer. Ive turned silent mode off on the phone now, and everything is ok, the sound can now be heard.

SIB is the best .Doesnt take up much memory and plays most formats well .Has anyone had any trouble playing flv files downloaded from youtube on sib?? i can play smaller files well like about 10-17mb, but with flv files larger than 20 mb lags while playing .. but its only the video that slows down .. the audio is still at a proper pace.Does anyone know if there's anyway to increase play speed of just video(not audio) on sib??I know when i hit the backspace button i get Speed:x 1.00 but i havent found out a way to increase the speed .. anyone care to shed any light on it ?

the only way is to wait for an update, but I dont know if SiB is still being updated often/still supported.. im still waiting for the official VLC player release!

ive heard that there is also an unofficial release of vlc as well as an official version without a frontend-is this true? if so, comparing all 3 (including SiB) im wondering which is better, especially for high bitrate videos? or do they all currently lag? should i stick with SiB for now?

You can also ignore ratios and fill the screen with kmplayer + mplayer.
(i've requested for this to Sib's developer but he still hasn't touched sib for past few months...)

In kmplayer, click once on the video so mplayer gets the keyboard input. Next use - and + to change the audio delay.
On my US layout device, I need to use the Fn keys, i.e. not holding the key for a second.
