tried entering commands as per earlier post no joy
how do i get to 'root' ?

that is how you get root. the command does nothing dangerous but anything typed after that could do.

you haven't installed the rootsh package then.


so reflash is the only option now afaik

You should be able to start the backup tool from xterminal
its called osso-backup
so type
Code:
osso-backup
and hit enter, the backup tool should now startup

I suggest just flash the root img (do not flash your eMMC! just the bare root image!) afterwards, the only things getting lost are installed programs as stuff like address-book and stuff are stored in the eMMC get not flashed (means you are more or less safe to flash without a backup).
