Ditto!! Hope this gets fixed. The app shows promise, but is far too unreliable for daily use at the moment.

I'd like for the nokia team to sort the built in media player such that new codecs could be 'plugged in'. Seems daft to have to install mplayer just because the build in media player wont play owt!

That is exactly what I thought too while reading this thread.

Some people just aren't happy if they haven't got anything to complain about - I know that kind of person well enough...

Ironically, the Youtube embed is broken.

They can be plugged in as it's based on Gstreamer.

Though, on a more serious note, if they were all about the dolla' bill, yo, they'd have actual presence in the US market, G.

(how awful was that?)

OK, my turn to b*ch and m*an.

Actually, this looks like it has the potential to be a great application, but it does need some work before I can use it.

The main problem is that several things just don't work. Several of the feeds listed won't play for lack of codec support, and/or won't stream. I can't choose to save to my internal memory card (only place my 8GB SDHC card works reliably). Interaction with Media Player is odd; pressing the escape hard button takes me to a list of my own videos in Media Player, not back to Video Center. I can't seem to properly get MPlayer to work as an alternative (though I think I saw a workaround somewhere in the thread). Apparently everyone else is having these issues, so I guess I'm just chiming in.

As someone else mentioned, certain buttons need to be larger so they're more Thumbable(TM), though this is not the worst Nokia app in this regard.

Did this get released this week in response to the iPod nano and touch announcements? It definitely has potential, but just isn't quite there yet. Don't think I'm one of those "never happy" sods, though. This will be really great once it's working right. I'd much rather use this and my N800 to download and watch videos than my mobile phone, or the significantly smaller iPod screens.

This did not get released as any response to anything it was released to the community so that any bugs you might find would be posted right here thus helping the developer fix the problems and ship an even better client to us probably integrated into a future firmware as a finished app maybe 6 months down the line. I think its already very usable, set your player to MPlayer using the caching hack found earlier in this thread and everything works great, or wait and DL the finished version in a few months.

Not every stream found in the default install will work with it, mplayer reconfig hack or no.

I still find it odd as hell considering their S60 podcast developers built a frickin' rock-solid app in only 3 releases with very little direct feedback from users.
Of course, this IS the first release of this tablet-based podcast/video client so hopefully by the third release everything will be sorted out.

I know. I use the S60 v3 podcast client on a daily basis for both audio and video podcasts..
Ah. Sorry about that. I've never used the S60 client, only seen screenshots (no carriers here in BFE that even know what a SIM card is, much less be able to pick an N or E series device out of a lineup) so I just assumed. And you know what happens when one assumes....

That's OK....I WISH the N800 VC app was as rock-solid as the S60 podcast client.
Maybe those two teams should do lunch sometime...
