there are several videos of resistive multitouch-screens on youtube for example. it does exist, but obviously hasnt been used before in any mainstream-device.
i wonder why?!

Perhaps for many having essentially four steps (tap, tap-hold, zoom widget, slide) to take to get to zoom would be better than a single spiral gesture or the fake multitouch being discussed here.
For me it woudn't.
It really doesn't matter that people would need to learn constraints in order to use the feature, after all, we are n900 users. We can't say that we are willing to put up with the limitations of the device because we like its hackerish qualities and then reject ideas because they are too hacky.
We are here to have fun with it.

It's actually more like 2 steps (doubletap-hold, slide)... obviously you can change the wait variable; or to make it even faster, make sure that 'double tap to zoom' only works when there's zero hold on the second tap.
Then, after 0.5second of hold, Imagine a compass widget shows up right under the stylus and it does different thing for different directions (ie: y axis = zoom, x axis = rotation... )
Sure, I just don't think it's a step forward in UI design..

In a browser - where I see this being the most useful day to day - double-tap-slide (ie the second tap immediately becomes slide if you hold it) shouldn't interfere with anything, even the double-tap to default zoom. Probably not in other apps too.
Yeah, well that is for sure! Just for kicks. Doubletap-slide would be time better spent if someone was going to monkey with this.
When can you have it done by?
you are only allowed to zoom with one finger, not with both.
