I really should put my mediatomb binary in to the repositories. It's just the same, in that you start it and it just runs as a dlna server, bit it does have the advantage of having a webUI which you can use on the phone itself. I might have put a link to a dl of the binary in an ealier post. This definitely works with the ps3 at least.

    you are done.

this initiates rygel which indexs the media on your phone and it takes some time.
After sometime, the device will become visible in the DLNA clients.

Rygel is NOT a GUI based application yet, so you will not see a popup or a notification or anything.

If you ran into the segmentation fault message you need to follow this step.

In Xterminal type the following commands.

    sudo gainroot
    apt-get remove --purge rygel
    reboot

It will remove every components of rygel and then reboot your system.

Then back to app manager and reinstall it

After you've done so, to go Xterminal and reboot once more to be sure. After rebooted, type "rygel" without quotes and leave Xterminal open until you stop using DLNA. If you closed Xterminal, Rygel will stop working.

    Hope this help.

    oh please pretty please do..
I am using Mediatomb for streaming from my laptop across my home, but using it on the n900 would be great.
Probably would have to renice it to not kill the device while its indexing. If you already have a thread on the topic can you provide a link here?

I just tried the same hat trick and it works, kind of: with my Samsung LE32C550 tv, the pictures come up just fine but the mp3's seem to hang forever. On the N900, the "trackerd" process is stuck at 100% or thereabout. I'll have to see if the version in cvs/svn/whatever is better in this regard. Oh and... that other fruity phone could not detect Rygel at all, tough it detected all other LAN servers... weird.

    A.

Installed Rygel using the details given at Rygel N900.
Indexing consuming 100% CPU for over 20 mins so i reduced media content on the N900.

Also set the commandline to "Rygel -t" to avoid having the N900 transcode.

Tried with a Ubuntu laptop and PS3.

    Ubuntu laptop
    • Able to view Songs using RhythmBox
    • Not able to see videos using the default Ubuntu Media Player

    PS3
    • Able to see Audio on PS3
    • Able to see video on PS3
    • Able to see images on PS3
    • Streaming is quite slow. I have no problems streaming from my laptop, by N900 seems to stutter too often

I use both rygel+zhaan to control my tv and send files to ps3.
I have tried Zahaan on my device but does not seem to work. I am trying to use it with my PC. I have wi-fi router plugged in for the same and have the UPnP enable on that but it jus shows my the name of my PC but not able view any files....

Hello, I have rygel running on my N900 however when I run zhaan I don't see any media player above the play/Pause/Stop buttons. On the left tab I see the N900 file system with Music/Videos/Artists.. folder.
Can you comment on what is the problem here.
