Please spare us the nonsense Nokia apologising. Nokia have what is needed to get Flash 10.1 on N900. All that is needed is one manager telling one programmer: "Your job is now to get Flash 10.1 on N900."

The fact that this manager preferred to tell that programmer: "Your job is to put a trojan horse on the N900 that will secretly send an SMS from the phone, regardless if the user wants it or not." is one hundred percent Nokia's fault.

It is Nokias responsibility not Adobe's. Why do I say that? I received an email response from Kevin Lynch at Adobe who said that they have already provided Flash 10.1 to Nokia and it's upto Nokia which devices they put it on.

so go figure!
And who twisted Adobe's arm to provide it (whatever it was, as he says 'porting kit', not a done Flash 10.1) to Nokia alone and nobody else, not even as a binary blob, alpha, beta or whatever on their Adobe labs ? And it's not like it's just up to Nokia what software we install. We don't have to root, jailbreak and spread via torrent, P2P or any of the sort. He gives it to us and we make it work (or discover it is FUBAR). But no, they just point a finger at Nokia and Nokia, with it's quiet policies, is always a good target to point fingers at, because they rarely bother to confirm or deny anything.

Adobe. Could. Have. Given. It. To. Everybody.

But they didn't and don't want to, either because the Flash player is technically FUBAR, simply not ready, or because their Open Screen project is just a misnomer for Smoke Screen Project and they are no better understanding what open development is than 5 years ago - even when their own fate might be depending on it.

But yeah, blame Nokia. Then you can blame Sammy, Moto or HTC in a year when one of their models ends up an official upgrade short, then someone else the year after... Even if Nokia DID make a Flash 10.1 upgrade for the N900, we would have this SAME conversation for the N9. The fish stinks from the head down, and and the Flash fish is not headed by Nokia.
Flash 10.1 works FAR better on the Incredible than 9 does on the N900, so, how is 10 messed up? You are assuming Flash is a simple container add-on and will work with the current version of Maemo. This is not even correct for Android, since HTC, Motorola and Samsung all have dev teams working with Android and Adobe.

My 900 is OCd to 800mhz and chokes on game and video content that is smooth on the Incredible and Flash 10.1. And I am just using Flash Lite 4 and Android 2.1. A bud's N1 with 2.2 performs even better with Flash.

This is all on Nokia and as long as people side with them, or are complacent about it, Nokia will continue screwing consumers over.

That is exactly the point. I don't care if Nokia has it or not, whether it's stuck because that manager doesn't like Flash, has different priorities, is sunbathing somewhere on the French riviera or whatever - the only way to PERMANENTLY solve the issue is to push Adobe to employ REAL open development practices (and that part is completely unrelated to Nokia, the x86_64 port is suffering from the same issue). Otherwise we'll be back in this thread in six months moaning about not having Flash 10.2 or 11 or whatever will be required by the popular sites then.

The bottom line is - you can curse Nokia, maybe rightfully, maybe not, but IMO Nokia should not be a part of the long term story at all (i.e. if you go INBANA over this, it won't matter a thing - the same will be happening over and over again with other manufacturers and OS-es, too).

But it is. Maemo's Flash is the Linux desktop flash port, not a super-special custom from-the-ground-up port like the Android effort is. There are some MicroB optimizations, but the plugin itself could be used from any browser just as it would on any linux.

I'm not complacent. I'm just saying getting INBANA over a painkiller to keep me cool for a few months will not cure the disease that the closed development of the Flash plugin is.

EDIT: BTW I guess then HTC is a screw-over, too ('cause the Hero was a 'full flash' device, too, now stuck at Flash 9 just as the N900). The others are not screw-overs simply because they never had a full flash device before, so they don't have anything (not) to upgrade.

2.2 froyo will be the last verison that we maybe able to use according to google. the next os coming from goolge is said to be gingerbread 3.0 that will only run on phones 1ghz 4inch screen and 512mb minimum. google it.

I think Google's focus with Gingerbread (3.0) is more for tablets. Hence the required specs.

N900 need Flash 10.0 badddd....because when you watch Youtube video, it's blurry. Didn't they say they're coming out 10.0 flash for N900 before launch? What a bunch of liars. I guess it simply slow down the system too much...that's why they ain't releasing it.
