Well its a bit lame of Apple to sling mud to cover up their own fault if that is the case. But Nokia's manufactured adverts claiming working Antennae's as a feature was lame as well. Should have spent that money to make their customers happier.

Nokia only got into this because Apple mentioned them ( along with other) in their dubious presentation in attempt to deflect from its embarrassing flawed antenna issue. So Apple handled it ok by giving a bumper, defaming competitors and quoting dodgy statistics ?? Are you so naive to fall for that display of smoke and mirrors?.

So you expect Nokia to sit back and take this defamation on the chin?. Nokia did not even go far enough for me, they could have mentioned that pre IPhone 4 devices featured stolen Nokia antenna patents which forced Apple into this debacle.

Say what you like, but the N900 has no design flaw whatsoever, I have been using it since October and while it could do most things better, its antenna functions as needed and I will choose it over the defective iPhoney 4 any day. Next ?

You mean Nokia is actually running some kind of advertisement, claiming their antennas do work? Or did you consider Nokias´ reaction to Apples´ press conference a form of advertisement? In case of the latter, you'll have to admit that Nokia played it smart, while Apple pays the bill for this advertisement campaign of Nokia and others.

There was something else as well.

Apple is definitely paying for it though its hard to tell just at this point. All this TV, Web and Newpaper press is free advertisement as well.

Sorry, imperiallight, but I don´t see the problem with the link you provided. Quite the opposite actually. The name Apple is not being mentioned, not even a hint at any competitors´ performance. Just a slightly uninteresting article about different ways of holding your phone. One thing is true though; someone at Apple could have taken notice of the article to benefit Apples´ cause.

The usb thing is way off topic...

Stop treating these companies like they're people.
You can't judge them as you would your friends or family.
They play by different rules and regulations.

"Of course, feel free to ignore all of the above because realistically, you’re free to hold your Nokia device any way you like. And you won’t suffer any signal loss. Cool, huh?"

No analogies or metaphors here. The general differences between Apple and Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, et al are:

1. The other companies make other models. Any design flaw that develops through the use of one of those models doesn't necessarily affect all of their models.

2. Apple from the start has elevated "user experience" to the top of a phones feature list. "Awesome, unbelievable, the first, a real game changer" are some of the hyperbole used by Apple to describe it. Apple changed what customers now expect of all the others with this dialog.

Apple has aggressively defended patents like "multi-touch" and whatnot because of the value that they assigned to "user experience" and this is where there might be hypocrisy.

Apples business plan is under attack. One way out of this jam is to spread the liability over multiple models and dilute any brand liability that arises from a flaw in one particular model. Apple can't because they don't have anything else.

As a result, they did the only thing available at the time and that was to attempt to change the brand liability dialog to a general cell phone one in order lay that liability off on to all the others...

Not cool, IMHO.

To illustrate this three card Monty technique that Apple is using I'll now post an analogy, even though I started this dialog with the statement...
No analogies or metaphors here.

It would be like Toyota in response to one of their recent safety recalls stating that: "... all cars can experience sudden, rapid accelleration."

While this maybe true they left out "...without the drivers input."

We would have no problem if Ford highlighted this omission and took exception to being included in Toyota's generality.

Nokia is doing the same.

I'll end with a homily:
...one bad apple can spoil the whole barrel .
That^ "barrel" in this case contains only Apples (pun intended) and does not apply to all barrels. .
