    multiboot-0.2.5

    Hello folks,

here's a brand new and shiny version of multiboot,
the bootmenu alternative for Maemo5, NITdroid, etc.

You can download it from here:

    http://downloads.nitdroid.com/Jay-c/....2.5_armel.deb
    http://downloads.nitdroid.com/Jay-c/..._0.1_armel.deb

Please note you need to install both files, starting with extras.

    What's new

    - previously selected item remembered if lid closed or menu timeout
    - Maemo kernel PR12 packaged in extras, so it will boot back into Maemo if everything else fails
    - keyboard and display lights forced on
    - uses modules from the target system rather than from Maemo (target system must have full set of modules and deps)
    - comes now with evkey binary
    - boots Maemo more reliably
    - flash looping prevention added
    - works better
    - is compatible with NITdroid 0.0.5-x line of rootfs's

    Remarks

If you have multiboot-0.1.x installed, please uninstall it. See this thread:

    http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=58769

    How to install

Assuming you have downloaded the files into /home/user/MyDocs:

    Code:
    dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/multiboot-extras_0.1_armel.deb
    dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/multiboot_0.2.5_armel.deb
If you are using NITdroid, you may also want to reinstall NIT.04 kernel:

    http://downloads.nitdroid.com/Jay-c/...nal1_armel.deb

    Code:
    dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-04_final1_armel.deb

You also need to populate /etc/multiboot.d/ otherwise you won't be able to boot anything else than Maemo!

Please read the README file in /etc/multiboot.d/examples/

    Hope this is useful!

    Cheers,
    Jay-C

thanks for that, really willing to make the jump now. I do have some questions though, determining the exact time I'll take the plunge :

    - anything we need to do (safe way, I prefer not reflash and have to reinstall close to 100 programs again) if we're running the the power37 kernel ? I've read some people have problems after calling the build-in uninstall option ?

    - delivery to the extras-devel repository ? Any ETA for that ?

    - plans for including the recent full partition backup/restore script ? Any ETA ?

Anyway thanks for this very nice solution !

    Great news Jay-C!
Maybe you should post a link to this thread in the Nitdroid thread!?
Do you have plans to release it in extras-devel?

Make sure you don't have bootmenu of multiboot-0.1 installed.

You need to get the power37 kernel image from somewhere. I am not going to include it in multiboot because of size concerns.
And, it's not for everybody anyway. Of course you also need a boot item for it.

As soon as people are satisfied with the experience.

What's that? Any reason why it should be part of multiboot?

Currently I use Maemo together with Titans power kernel (Nitdroid is not yet installed).
What do I have to do if I want to test Multiboot together with Titans power kernel (I want to install Multiboot and have the same behaviour as currently as long as the keyboard is hidden on boot)?

    thanks for the comments.
I need the power37 for the overclocking and the mobile hotspot usage.

    On the backup/restore : http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ckup%2Frestore

Have a look, it's a bootloader level script, dj-steve was already looking into getting it in multiboot but I guess he's more looking into nitdroid, which is totally fine I guess.

You don't need Multiboot if you only using Titans kernel. This is if you are using multiple operatingsystems. When you install Nitdroid you will need it.
