    Hi PipoXtreme,

any chance you have sysklogd installed?
And if so, there may be some debug messages
    in /var/log/syslog.
Otherwise I would like to give you a version which prints
some debug messages on the console, so I can
trace back what could be the problem.

    regards

I guess it is because of the activation of EXTRA DEVEL at your device. (a lot of things are stored locally while updating the catalog - because of this it is so slow)
Simply deactivate EXTRA Devel and reboot your N900. Your lost memory will be there as before.
To check your idea I reinstalled Scout. Extra dev did effectively not eat a lot of root. Scout itself did neither, but the Scout queries do eat up a lot of memory that will only be freed after a reboot....Just closing the app was not sufficient. What to do about this?

I couldn't reproduce this. The queries can took a lot of
memory. But RAM not rootfs. And this memory should
be freed after the app closed.

i did three queries: my name, my girlfriend's name and the most common Dutch name Jan. Just to create an overkill in results.

Rootfs free mem dropped by 10 mb, usage of ram increased during query but dropped afterwoods just like you said. Available rootfs mem remains at 62 mb while before the queries this was almost 73 mb. after quiting scout Ram usage drops approx 20 mb, rootfs usage remains the same unfortunately.

    Can't help it sorry...

    What I did:
    Reboot device, wait some minutes,
    rootfs 66% free.
Start scout, make some searches with many results.
    rootfs 66% free.

The other thing is free RAM. It is difficult to use this value if you
want to measure how much memory a program need.
There are many background processes. And it can happen
that the program triggers the OS to swap unused memory.
So you can have even more free RAM while using scout.

In the last 20 minutes the free RAM value changed between
8 and 32 mb (without starting any application).

Additional testing resulted still in significant drop of rootfs memory. However after a longer period (got a coffee) the rootfs is freed up again. So it seems to use a lot of rootfs but releases it as well after some time.

Other question: Is it possible to create combined queries like: all appointments with Lars in 2010?

In general: where are the votes guys? Scout needs them!

New version with new settings will be released after
    the competition is over.
Please vote for this app if you like it.
If you don't like it, vote for an other app,
    but VOTE :-)
    (Give the developers feedback!)
