I didnt want to start another thread about youtube mobile, but i cant sort this one out.

When im on wifi i get the normal youtube, on gprs it goes to the mobile version. Now, im clever enough to spot the pattern there, so how does it know the difference between the connections, or more importanly how do i stop it from doing it.

Obviously when i first got this problem i did all the searching and tried changing the useragent to quite afew different things, e.g.:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; en-US; rv:1.9.2.1) Gecko/20100330 Firefox/3.6.1 Fennec/1.0.1

Firefox/3.6.6

Firefox 3.6.6 Mozilla Browser 1.9.2.6 RX-51 N900

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090322 Fennec/1.0b2pre
but none of these work, but i think thats because its the connection causing the problem.

Does this make sense? Anyone got any ideas? Cheers

it may be because when you are using GPRS, youtube recognizes IP address from the pool assigned to mobile operator and generates the content accordingly (for mobile phone user). while at home you will be assigned to a different IP gateway and may experience different context.

Or the proxy that you're using through the mobile operator adds its own stuff to make YouTube deliver mobile content.

Cheers for your replies, I didnt think of either of those. I'll speak to my provider and see what they can tell me.

Also it may be the case of GPRS settings - sometimes changing from WAP to "regular" APN will help (different pool of IP addresses for those two).
Have a look here as well:

Cheers jedi, spoke to my SP yesterday and after getting through to the first two who said "nah, it cant be changed" i got through to one who actually gave a s**t.

Sorted it now and it was a case of the APN, so changed it and seems to be working.......for now anyway.

Posted in that thread yesterday
