setting wifi powersaving to intermediate has improved it a lot... now to see what hit that has on battery life 8-)
3g wasn't too bad anyway and google dns servers don't seem to be any faster than my providers.

I am pretty sure that this is what microb does when it is communicating with a server. The next animation (solid loading bar) is when it is actually downloading data.
