Here is some review with nice pics for you. In couple words: this is hard plastic case containing two parts - frame for the top screen part and shell for the body. They are both hard plastic on outside with body shell having silicone layer inside for additional shock protection, I guess. This silicone layer extends to cover usb port, audio jack, and the whole top panel with volume, power and camera buttons. Design is nice and solid, I like it. Screen protector has only one cut out for the earpiece, but it does not affect functionality of the proximity sensor as far as I can see.
Edit: and its cheaper on ebay ($22.95 vs official $34.95)

I added the Zcover clip to the Otterbox.
There are a few parts to the clip set.

There is a back tab that goes inside the case of the device (shown here the one from my old Zcover case for my iAudio X5):

I installed this by drilling 2 holes in the appropriate places in the Otterbox out case...

Hi techiem2, thanks for sharing your mod experiences!

So in the end are you still happy with your mod?
Or if you were to do it over would you just get the otterbox & use it with something like this?

i.e. already has a belt clip on it...
So when you pull the phone+case out, you're no longer impeded by the belt clip etc.

So far I'm still happy with it.
My only annoyance is, as mentioned, that the Otterbox doesn't quite clip over the front edge of the N900 now, which makes the stylus a tad harder to pull out on the rare occasion I want it.
I'm thinking of pulling it apart to see if I can file down the zcover inside tab a little so the Otterbox will fully clip into place.

I don't think I would want it in a full pouch. I have a couple alarms on it so it's nice having it directly on my belt so when they go off I can just tap the screen..

I had a clearprotector on my N900 and it was awesome. Nothing scratched it. So it had a very very slight grip to it. Nothing I would worry about. Anyway that N900 died and Nokia replaced it with a new one. I decided to try a Martin Fields. It cost more and while it looks even better than the clear protector (and that looked awesome) and it is probably even smoother than the screen itself, I am going to change it. It is hopeless as it is scratching like mad. It has only been on 3 weeks and already has marks all over it. They may have been good once but are terrible now. Looks great, lasts 5 minutes.

As for the case, I have an easecase off ebay. Brilliant case but I am thinking of switching to a folding case that stays on as I have almost dropped my N900 getting it out of its current pouch type case. Trouble is I have seen reports of the Nokia cp-408 rubbing all the paint off the bezel, so maybe I will look at an otterbox.

Thanks Techiem2,

Others have mentioned that Otter may now include the option to have a clip installed

Might be worthwhile looking into!?

All the best.

I have been using clarivue screen protector for over 6 months and still no a single scratch on it , it feels as there is no screen protectors on it .

you get two for 10 bucks (use the promotion code clear123 to get %10 off)

I'm using the clear one and it covers the front camera too

The anti-glare one is the same price.

Give them a shot

I've assembled all the cases/protectors I'm aware of...
Perhaps this can go to the OP & a running commentary can be added to each item as people share their experiences?
_____
Cases
*****
"Nokia CP-408" (there's many more reviews)
http://drippler.com/nokia_n900/revie...-for-the-n900/
http://europe.nokia.com/find-product...ng-case-cp-408
Successor to CP-321, which by some accounts has slightly better style/aesthetics, but all-up is inferior because functionality falls-short.

"No-name" (don't believe there's reviews, not even sure of make/model)
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Red-Hard-Case...item255bffc9a6
One user in this thread has a black version, and is quite happy.
I believe the following are all from the same source/s...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002VSMAH0/
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
According to some the build quality isn't that sturdy, the place holders can snap-off.
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...056#post696056
Then again one shouldn't expect wonders for such a low price.

"PDair aluminium case" (there's also leather/rubber versions)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk28LFQX4NY
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product...ducts_id=27477
A bit crippled as one can't "easily" use the keyb once the case is on.

"Otterbox N900 Commuter series"

This is looking like the coolest all-up IMO, what do ya'll think?
Looks like they can be had for less via eBay

Few others worth mentioning...

Just a PDAir clone?

________
Protectors
********
Some of the cases above include protectors, does it matter which of these one gets?
Surely there isn't a huge difference in QC for such a simple apparatus?
*update*
After more reading I'm amazed with the huge variation in points of view.
Some swear by certain models, whilst others are adamant they're crap.
These are but a few of the options....
