So I worked on a few iphone themes before and started digging into the system for goodies to modify. I wanted to figure out howto get rid of the background behind each icon. I couldn't find any info on the forum so here it is.

2 files in your current theme folder need to be modified.
Alpha seems to be nokias default blue theme, Beta is the default orange theme, for others they should be the name of theme from what I have seen so far just check the images folder.
    /usr/share/themes/beta/images

I'm using the orange theme from nokia so the 2 files I need to change are the following files:

    /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png

    /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutApplet.png

Just rename these files in term or ssh to .old instead of .png and reboot your phone.
Your icons should be backgroundless ohh and also you can fit more icons on your screen without it looking like a cluttered mess.

    More to come.

    MrHack

this info is mentioned a few times in some threads around here.
i think the best thread for this is "share your mods".

could somebody please post the code?

    wouldnt it be (for pressed)???

    *mv /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.old*

& to restore the icon backgrounds would be???

    *mv /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.old /usr/share/themes/beta/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png*

    Easier than that.

    Open terminal and type:

    Code:
    sudo gainroot
    cd /usr/share/themes/YOUR THEME NAME/images
    rename ApplicationShortcutApplet.png ApplicationShortcutApplet.png.old
    rename ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png.old
    Should do the trick.

MrHack, you may want to run a search for "Screenshots" and also "Truly Epic" as these are the threads where all the mods have been done. There are also a whole lotta custom icons in there from various modders along with all sorts of other ideas etc, knock yourself out on the 300 or so pages of posts!

    Enjoy mate....

    Hello everyone,

I had removed the icon backgrounds when in PR1.2, and the top icons for battery, signal strength, etc were also no background. I followed the above instructions after updating to PR1.3, but now it does not remove the backgrounds of icons on top. Any suggestions?

what do you mean?? the menu bar icons? if thats the case, in theme customizer, you can just change the menu bar opacity to get rid of that background. for example this is the result.
