Here's my post. There are TONS of great comments already since I did not have the time to give it a full analysis before running off to the doctor's office.

    Very good find... :-)

Like I said on your blog thread, I wonder why they would apply for special confidentiality on the external photos if this is just the N800 with a wimax chip fitted.

On the other hand, that outline does look an awful lot like the N800.

Incidentally, the Nokia hardware code for this is RX-44, the same code seen in the firmware discussion thread over the summer.

Sorry for cross-posting this here and on the blog, but here's what I came up with:

As far as I can tell from looking at the FCC report, this tablet does NOT contain WiMax capability. If it did, the FCC would have had to test the RF emissions in the WiMax range (2.5 GHz)and this test does not appear in that report. The test DOES show that they tested WiFi, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth + GPS emissions. This would appear to be a new model of tablet with built-in GPS rather than with WiMax.

Nokia have promoted N800s and 770s with GPS units and map packages, maybe the logical next step is to release a tablet with built in GPS?

Incidentally, Nokia have already included GPS chips within several phones (N95, E90 and 6110) and of course they recently bought what became known as Nokia Maps.

Hmm... what if it's neither wimax nor the rumoured keyboard model, but an ordinary N800 with a GPS chip?

Looking at what textrat said on 06-19-2007 in the "new n800 firmware proof" thread (post #50):

I'm guessing this means we're seeing new drivers? I'd be happy to speculate on which ones, if the above line of thought is correct.
Nokia calls those numbers "reference designators". They can refer to an entire platform, though, with multiple device iterations covered.

For instance, IF the company decided to create an E800, or even an N801, it could very well be an RX-34 device. RX-44, however, would imply a new platform unless there's something going on outside the norm. If it is a new device (which I currently have no way of knowing), well, nothing new there, is it?
This indicates that this is likely to be the next tablet, and not just a small upgrade to the n800 (fingers crossed).

As the 6230 and 6230i showed, you never know.

Well if it does have GPS built in should we expect apps of some kind? Perhaps Google maps that can also be run on an ol' school N800 with BT GPS ???

It's difficult to tell what they might include. The N95 comes with Nokia Maps, but the 6110 Navigator (a smartphone with GPS as its main selling point) is bundled with Route 66. Both of them use the S60 3rd software platform, both released within months of each other by the same company, yet they had totally different navigation software included.

It's worth noting however that built-in GPS units on computers and smartphones can usually be used with any software you care to install, so you don't have to use whatever's in the bundle.

I'd be very surprised if Nokia didn't include at least something bundled with a GPS tablet.
