There are actually ways to do this without going into the source and rewriting as a debian/linux app.
It really depends on what resources are available from the develpment period.
In a direct economic sense it may not profit bethsoft, but one cannot say that releasing the source and resources wouldnt be of use to a remake project.
The fan community is large and would generate a lot of buzz for bethsoft.
