You would also like to install Bash if you havent... stock you will only get 15 rows history. With Bash you will get unlimited, ctrl+r and other familiar things that stock lacks.

just got my N900 this week and I am really happy about it and already very much appreciated the support I got here. Thanks for that.
One thing I couldn't figure out yet is how the arrow keys of the german keyboard layout behave in the terminal app. Left and right work fine, but the one thing you really need in a terminal is the up-arrow, which would be reachable by Fn+Left-arrow, which just won't work. All other Fn combinations work fine, but not that one. So I can switch to the english layout and then have my uparrow at the Ä-key...
So is there a solution of either getting the up-arrow work or switching to the english keyboard layout and back without going the long way to settings -> "Texteingabe" (text input) to switch the layout?
