hi,

a friend of mine gave me his n900, he had a loose microusb port, tried to solder it by himself - didnt't work - and voided his guarantee.

so does anyone know from where to get the microusb plug?

thanks in advance!

Electronics sites like SparkFun and AdaFruit might have them. You could try a Radio Shack / Source but I think they just sell phone accessories now

Edit: Here's one on SparkFun:

My USB port is failing and I will be taking it to a Nokia Centre hoping for a repair. My concern is that I do not have a backup and may not get my original device back

Qs.
- is there an separate battery charger available ?
- if I got it charged how best can I get a backup ? (WiFi ?)

I'm almost tempted to try a repair myself, but will see what Nokia Centre says.

Here's how you can do a full-system backup:

I guess this should be possible over an IP connection over WiFI (adhoc N900 to laptop)

If Nokia Centre cannot repair and return my phone (rather than provide a replacement), then I have got a quote of 29.99UKP for making the repair. A fair price to return my phone/software/data and a new secure USB socket.

I will also be filing down the 'lugs' on the Nokia's micro-USB lead as it grips into the socket on the phone far to tightly.

I am using Nokia 5230 or 5800 battery so the answer is "there is away to charge your battery" using these 2 phones since the battery is identical.

Bluetooth or Wifi should be able to backup your data.
WIFI -> you can use FTP to transfer your data
Bluetooth -> use bluetooth sync to transfer your data.
