I have only had my N800 for a couple of weeks and I did my first update of it today, now I am running into a few problems.
I am trying to reinstall some of the applications that I had previously installed and on many I am getting an error that the libffi4 package is missing (python, maemo wordpress py).
I am not sure about how to install the missing package and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Go to python in maemo.org downloads and first install the python 2.4 base repository and then after installing that install python 2.5.
Hope this helps

Thanks,
I have tried that and it I am still getting the error. I have also tried reflashing back to the previous image (26 8) and am still having the same problems. I am wondering if doing the update via a Vista machine is causing the problem, although everything says it is fine. I could try reflashing from an XP machine. Should I maybe hold off on restoring the settings after the reflash, install the apps I want, then restore the settings?

Try the red pill mode to find the respective packages. Search the site for red pill mode

OK got into red pill mode with no problems, but can't seem to find the package I need. I have tried installing Python as per the web site (install base then install program) Have browsed all of the packages but don't see libffi4. Unless I am missing is here anything else I should be looking for. Thanks and I appreciate the help

Just an update, I have tried everything that I can think of tonight with no luck. Any assistance would be appreciated. Could I have a problem with the application catalog. I have tried to install directly from http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dist/bora/install (both the missing libffi4 and python) with no luck. I get an error indicating that the unable to download Application package not found

I installed WordPy after reading your message with no problem. I have the Python 5 runtime installed, and I did find libffi4 after going into Red Pill mode. Did you uninstall Python 4? I would.

Did you try the suggestions on this page: http://maemo-wordpy.garage.maemo.org/
?

"I have only had my N800 for a couple of weeks and I did my first update of it today, now I am running into a few problems."

I am, like you, new to the platform and if I had known the update was going to be so problematic, I wouldn't have done it. Unlike you, I flashed with Flasher from a Mac.

It has taken me about four hours to get the machine up and running again and there were lib files that the installer stopped complaining about only once I installed mysql - or was it Maemo mapper ?

I can't get Aisleriot to run. Among other things, the installer asks for a help page in English. I went to the site and found the missing file but clicking on it merely brought me back to the installer and the app itself, not the file. Very frustrating.

I wish were geek enough to know how to install files without going through the installer.

Most of us with the exception of a few are just noobs. We just learnt everything just the way you are doing. Have patience .... each day is a new learning experience with the it and the itt forums. I love each and every day because of my tablet and the wonderful discussions here.

I had installed Maemo-mapper the first time and I was still getting the error. I will try the mysql.

I am having the same problems with this one too, but am more focused on trying to get python installed.

In Red Pill mode, I did not see find libffi4, Python 2.4 may be installed on there if it is in the default image, but I did not specifically remove it. As per the PYMaemo instructions I installed the base repository and then click on the install file for 2.5, that is where the error comes up.
I had no issues with Python and Wordpy when the unit was new and out of the box (got both installed fine). This problem started after I did the latest install. It almost seems like the previous version was patched (out of the box) and when the machine was flashed it put on a non patched version.
Oh well I enjoy the challenge but it now makes me hesitate to recommend these tablets for less technical users.
I appreciate the help from all.
Stephen
