(where the 7 may be replaced with the number of view you wish to change to). So all you need is some configuration of Queen Beecon, or DCEW.
It didn't work for me when I tried it just now, but I haven't read much of the documentation yet.

Uh, I think the goal at the time of they implemented the 9 home screens was this. But that goal has since faded away...

The program I used most heavily as an editor was called XyWrite; it was blazingly fast and used up to 9 screens. We used them constantly.

The idea of having a grid of numbers and clicking one to get a given view comes from WindowMaker, among other places.

having the grid have toroidal topology, all spatially connected, with 8-directional/2-degrees-of-freedom swiping, would reduce the need for a "remote control" or "map" that is on all cells to help navigate to other cells

    Do you have modified-hildon-desktop installed?

    What is the output from

    gconftool -g /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/current

    After running the -s command?

cheers bro, i didnt have modified-hildon-desktop installed!
its working great for me now
couldnt get extra wallpapers to work, but after applying an image set to the original 4 desktops i opened the .backgrounds folder and added my own 4 images there, then renamed the 4 i had put there so that the file names matched the 4 from the image set, and changing the numbers in the file names to 5,6,7,8 as im running 8 desktops now
    if that makes any sense!
