You know a lot of things, Texrat! Especially about things *we* want to know about!

I'm just curious if this is based on a new MSRP or not. Nokia's site still says $399, but knowing the direct biz, home store prices will always be the highest.

Looks like the N800 on Amazon.com dropped about $70 in price recently as well:

$280. Considering I have about $100 worth of amazon.com gift certs right now... well gee, happy halloween to me!

    Congratulations!

Don't forget to update the N800's firmware before you use the SDHC card, to make sure that you have the bug-fixed version.

Heh. I got paid Monday. My wife liked my N800 so much, she ordered one for herself on Monday. At the old price ($350 though amazon). We thought we were getting a great deal on it.

Still, even though I bought mine 1 mo ago for full price through Nokia, I'm still happy with it. I can't count the number of times, since 25 years ago when I got my first computer, where a newer better computer came out right after I bought one (or the one I bought got significantly cheaper; or both).

Bought an Apple II+ just a couple months before the Apple IIc came out.
Bought an Apple IIe just a couple months before the Apple IIgs came out.
Bought a Gateway 486sx33 just a couple months before the started a program where you could update to a newer generation machine that comes out within the next year of when you buy, for a steep discount (and then they started doing Pentiums within a year after that).
Bought a Pentium Pro just a few months before the release of the Pentium II.
Bought a first generation Palm Pilot just a few months before the back-lit version came out.
Bought a Powerbook Titanium first generation just a few months before the white iBook came out (which would have been just fine for me, and much cheaper).
Bought an igloo iMac just a few months before the panel iMac came out.

I think the ONLY tech device I've ever purchased that had a long life before a successor came out was a Sega Genesis.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the WiMax or keyboard version of the N800 comes out before Christmas. It's just the way these things go for me :-) And, most importantly, I'm happy with the N800 as it is. Even if the "N900" comes out tomorrow, I'm still happy with the N800.

That said... I'll probably be ready to buy an N900 (or whatever it'll be called) in January :-)

I'm not entirely sure that price is for a new N800. You'll see that below that offer is a link to 3 New from $350.00

...which is ironic as the successor to the Genesis/Megadrive was the Saturn, which no one seemed to want!

I could be wrong about this but I believe the Genesis/Megadrive was actually still in production (as a budget console made under licence) after the Saturn stopped production.
