Well can't blame Archos for that fact that they want to make an Android device that isn't a phone. However most apps should work there is a file called market4archos.apk maybe that will work.

Sure there are some things missing but from a value perspective this device will be very good.

I think we finally have some true competition to Nokia n810/Nokia n800 in terms of hardware and in terms of software we will have to wait Angstrom, Mer/Maemo, or the Arm version of the Ubuntu netbook remix to get ported to this device (Of course Android does a fine job).

I am still personally considering this as an N810 replacement (or possibly this...if that one still exists...).

I think device will also provide some competition to the Sony PSP because (while they maybe completely different devices) the form factors are too completely different an from a value perspective the Archos is much better than the psp. However I still love the PSP despite its high price, poor web browser, and horrible Limitations.

But ultramobile pc's are horribly slow and expensive and the other Linux handheld probably doesn't have much community support or support from the manufacturer.

Well trying to put a full desktop os on a device with only 1.33ghz processor. That is what will make it slow even with something like the Ubuntu netbook Remix.

I guess I don't agree. I've seen the U820 running Vista with absolutely no problem and apparently, even though I've never seen it in person, the Viliv S5 runs very fast. So it will not necessarily "make it slow".
