Hi,

I'm completely new to trying to SSH to my N800 from my PC (likewise for VNC)... My PC and my N800 are both connected via my DSL/Wifi router and both have the same IP (at least, that's what my N800's Wifi Info is telling me).

Is there anyway to SSH/VNC in this situation? Seems like it would be a fairly common configuration for most people, so maybe I'm just missing something?

Thanks!
Tim

Update: I found this:

...but I'm not getting it to work. Would that be the correct route, though>

Thanks,
Tim

Uhh, they shouldn't have the same ip! If they have the same ip then something is borked on your wifi router.

Ok, that could be the case, but... Would Wifi Info not show the correct IP for some reason?

Thanks,
Tim

Not that I know of. If you have xterm go in there and do a sudo ifconfig . That will show you the ip address. It should be the same as what the info screen. You don't happen to have one of the machines set with a static address do you?

When I try to run ipconfig, I get:
Code:
/bin/sh: ipconfig: not found
As far as static IPs are concerned... I don't think so, as I'm on DSL. Is there a way to check that? Could my router have a static IP?

Thanks,
Tim

timsamoff: It is ifconfig, not ipconfig.

Mine worked after getting root in xterm and then just typing ifconfig. My N800 show correct IP address for wlan0.

Ah, thanks! (I was wondering why ipconfig didn't work! Duh!). I will try that out.

You might need to be root for that to work as well. Uhh, quick question. You have a dsl modem, what's in between the modem and your computer? Or is the modem a router? There should be (better be) a router between the modem and the rest of your network.

The modem is the router... I used to bypass the router part of the modem and use an additional router for wifi, but I decided to just use the all-in-one that was provided by the DSL company. Could that be the issue?
