When i place the recaller widget on my desktop, after i call some one or answer any call, and most of the time even when i open any other app, everything is lost from my desktop and i have to bring it all back again. I have on my desktop: Facebook Widget, Foreca Weather, Date today, and recaller.

Pls suggest what shall i do?

When i remove the recaller widget from the desktop, everything works fine.

I have this same issue:

Things that dissapear:
- Desktop command execution widget
- Recaller

Things that dont dissapear:
- Added contacts
- Added shortcuts

So it seems that its only widgets affected, and maybe its recaller thats the common denominator.

Can anyone else confirm they have this issue?

P.S. Op, you may want to make this into a poll, and then we can let recaller author know (assuming the outcome is of that)

Edit - I also cannot spot the pattern as to what triggers it, if anything

yeah i get similar problems. recaller's always disappearing, i thought it was after an update. various shortcuts randomly disappear, and the fm rds widget lives a life of its own.

I think it has already been confirmed numerous times that recaller and other memory-sucking python widgets cause these problems.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this widget. It might have been helped if the developer wasn't so rude to people posting questions, and also if there was some kind of documentation to go with it. Now almost every incoming call the thing comes on for a few seconds and then sometimes disconnects the call and sometimes sends the N900 into a memory/processor meltdown.

How on earth do you uninstall it? It doesn't appear in the list of apps so can't be removed that way.

Cheers, Graham.

Code:
apt-get remove recaller

or

dpkg -r recaller
both in root terminal

And as the said developer, I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with users like you, dear Graham
First of all, you proclaim me to be rude. When and where please? Otherwise, I can't adjust my behavior ;-)
2nd: you claim that about missing documentation. But did you ever just open the settings of the widget and then click the appearing HELP button that opens this wiki page? I'd say that this is better docs than 99% of all other apps in Maemo.
Now if you have trouble using recaller, you perhaps might try to disable auto-recording? (Just use the same settings menu - it's the wrench icon as found on all other widgets and as described in the manual of your N900). And if it gives you a processor meltdown, select another encoding in the settings - it's set to AAC, which IS heavy on the CPU, because we're doing high-quality high-compression encoding on a mobile device. Just try WAV instead, gives you much larger files, but less CPU usage during a call.
3rd: You claim that it can't be uninstalled. You can first simply delete it from the home screen, then use the App Manager to uninstall it. Just like any other app on your N900.

It's users like you that demotivate us developers. Recaller has 175'000 downloads and offers a functionality similar or superior to a 15$ symbian app - for free (I believe I got 10-20 donations :-). The help page is a wiki - improve it if you want. Why do you expect everything to be served on a silver platter? What is your contribution in this? Dissing me on 3 all wrong claims because you're not willing to do the slightest learning effort?

Hello twalti,

I installed recaller today, and I am having some problems with it,
I was hoping you could assist!

Problems #1 (found in the wiki also)
- After call ends, the maemo banner does say call was terminated,
but recaller keeps recording and also notified me that it is recording.
- The recorded conversation is lost, and I cannot find the wav file.
- Only reboot stops it.

Problems #2
- Widget becomes unresponsive after a record or two.

Any ideas?
I have ssh to my phone, and can perform whatever actions needed to debug.

Cheers,
Eitam.

Hello there!
Im one of those who are extremly happy with recaller I think its a super application that you can record with just one push on the screen.
However I have two questions.
1. I tried to change recaller.py trough WinSCP. I change bitrate aaenc from 128000 to 64000. But then the widget dissapears and i cant get it back other than reinstall Reacaller. Is it possible to lower the bitrate at all trough this procedure?
2. Would it be possible to have a funktion/option where you just paus the recording by pushing a button and then started recording from the same position on the same audiofile again when pushed the button? Like a real dictaphone works.

Otherwise i like this application a lot it is essentional for n900.
Cheers (hope u understand my lousy english)
