is there a player out there that would play all the common file formats? Nothing seems to be playing my .mkv files. i have sib, as well km player, some codes installed as far as i remember, yet the videos just wont work. Avi works fine, other seem to be having issues... Any suggestions?

.MKV will play fine, it's the resolution in the mkv file that is bugging the player. The N900 won't play HD resolutions and usually the mkv format is used by HD movies.
The max resolution is, i think, 800 x 480 pixels.

Edit: Also some codecs need to have special settings like a "low profile" or a very low bitrate. What codec does the file in question have?

H264 will only work using the Baseline 3.0 profile specs. It took me a lot of fiddling to get H.264 to work properly in the default media player.

I could play other formats with mplayer but it was unwatchable and choppy.
