did you guys ever tried skype videocall?
    the point is:
no one will do this because the front cam is really crappy.
its useless to take time to develop a app that produces pointless crappy wannabe pics.
sorry guys but the truth is hard

So is anyone able to make a application to take pictures / videos with the front camera? With enough light the quality isn't that bad, at least mine looks fine.

Maybe you should just stick a little mirror under the back camera lense.

    @ Timothy CHAN

it's kinda funny we went down the same path of phones. my previous phone was htc kaiser too and got n900 as my next device...

i miss the fron't camera too. aside from using it for 3g video call, i use it as a mirror. the mirror app for the n900 is not that good and the project seems dead...

Open the Application Manager in your N900, go to the Download > All, key in "Mirror". It would show up for you. As its quality of image is so poor, why border to try?

Thanks for the suggestion. Even though I have no intention to trade it out in the future, sticking something on the body of N900 which has costed me USD580.00?? No, no, no, not a solution for me.

To change the brightness and contrast of front camera

    gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video1 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videobalance brightness=0.5 contrast=1.2 ! autovideosink

    The "brightness" property

Allowed values: [-1,1] Default value: 0

    The "contrast" property

Allowed values: [0,2] Default value: 1
