Just wondered if anyone knows if there is a music file conversion application available for the N900? Or is there somebody working on it?
I thought it may be useful for the mycontact application so MP3 files can be converted to WAV files without having to do it on a PC. I dont have on-demand access to my PC as I'm away from home alot.
I'd say ffmpeg. That`s the tool I would use on my linux desktop and it's downloadable through CLI; root -> apt-get install ffmpeg.
I have not tried the conversion to WAV, but as far as I know ffmpeg supports that. So after installing it your command line option would be something like

Couldn´t refrain myself from looking into it a little bit more. Had success to some degree, the progress of which can be seen in the screenshot below.
The conversion works as propagated, the default media player, however, refuses to play the file. I am not sure if that is just my machine or a general bug. There is a somewhat curious bug report which can be found below. It is stated that the bug is resolved or never was a bug in the first place. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6719
On another note, I did have success converting a quicktime mp4 movie to mpeg format.

The default mediaplayer does not like all wav files.
