Hi,

this is my first post and I am already asking for favors: I bought the n800 so I can videochat with my sister who lives on a different continent. I did not manage to order a second one on time before coming to visit her, so now I can't demonstrate how it works, nor do I have a clue myself.

Any good soul out there willing to videochat with me/us? I am on CET or EST+6.

Thanks!!

Like you I, along with my brother, bought N800s on the basis of its video chat capability.

Our experience is that the latest firmware seems to have broken the audio aspect so there is no harm in waiting for your sister to get hers. Who knows, by which time Nokia may fix the issue but I am not holding my breath judging by Nokia's track record in such matters.

Is that the update that fixed the SDHC issue?

I bought mine right before that one was available so I updated to the penultimate one, please tell me that's not the one!!!!!!

I would like to show her how it works before I leave agsin

Yes, the latest firmware that is intended to fix the SDHC issue.

All I can say is that we were video chatting just prior to updating the firmware and afterwards neither one can hear the other - complete silence.

Video is fine though.

I can understand your frustration, it is a really cool feature to demonstrate.

But then I have seen that some users have issues with the new firmware that others don't so you might be ok. Fingers crossed.

Mine works fine with the latest firmware using GTALK to establish a video chat.

I just bought mine and it works fine with google talk and skype. I tested the audio chat. I just used two different accounts (one on my PC and one on my N800).

It is possible then that my brother and myself are affected in this way but others may not be?

Lack of audio indicates a microphone issue, I tried to install Maemo Recorder to test this but that app fails on me

If you don’t mind I shall give you a quick call. That will help to establish a few more parameters.

Cool, thanks for the replies!!! I can't let anyone see me right now (dying my hair as I am typing this), but add me as well, please: xendula at googlemail com. Hope mine won't have audio problems, since I only installed the update that added skype. I'll start bugging you guys tomorrow

Apart from being able to try this out and demonstrate the functionality, it would be great to meet fellow NIT aficionados
