On N900 I mostly use OVI maps as it is greatly integrated into device, although it is only usable if you are walking.
I will also give a vote for Mappero, mostly because it is a successor of Maemo Mapper from N810.
And third will be maemaps, which exploits the great Google Maps with Maemo style .

In my car I'm still preferring N810 with Maemo Mapper with minigpsd in front of Mappero/OVI maps on N900.
* bigger screen
* better car holder
* battery last more

I heard good comments about Sygic Mobile Maps, but their map coverage for my area is 20% (very outdated and incomplete). They use maps from Navteq for their maemo port and although OVI maps is also using Navteq, OVI maps has far more better coverage. If they update their maps, I will buy it .

ovi for use with pre-downloaded maps when out of coverage/avoiding roaming data charges.

for all other use, modrana is my favourite:
- has turn by turn voice guidance (using eSpeak)
- has "one button" rerouting function (with auto reroute planned)
- large finger friendly menu layout good for use while moving
- good local search integration (find supermarket/ATM/hospital etc.)
- (last but definitely NOT least) articulate & enthusiastic developer who embraces user feedback and wishlists

EDIT

- and, as of todays update (14/10/10), it now has optional x2 and x4 "map magnification" - finally, my tired old eyes can actually read the streetnames easily even when moving around! Thanks again MartinK, you are a star!
