Folks,

Just placed my order for N800. Please advice me on this.

1. If I am not current on the firmware, what are the basics for any upgrade. More importantly, what is the safest way to upgrade without the pitfalls of issues thereafter.

2. I have a Simpletech Simpleshare 500GB NAS for all my media needs. My XP PC accesses it as a Network Share. My Modded Xbox accesses it with Samba. How do I share the contect of my NAS mediaserver on N400.

Does the N800 Filemanager Application be able to access all shared machines on the Wireless Home Network?

Thanks
Vinny

There is the mediaplayer canola http://openbossa.indt.org.br/canola/ If your NAS supports being a UPnP server its easy.

When you first get the N800, charge the battery then connect to a windows computer with the usb cable and use the internet tablet firmware upgrade wizard to load the latest firmware. There is a new version out from just a few days ago. If you do this before you set up your N800 you will not have any problems. The next time you update firmware, use the tools/control panel/backup applet to backup your settings. You may still have to reinstall some programs but it will go smoothly. New firmware is supposed to fix SDHC (>=4GB SD cards) issues.

I get mine tomorrow. Do I have to charge the battery fully before I upgrade? How long does it take to charge? Can you use the tablet while it's charging?

Yes you can use it while charging, but you can't flash the firmware on A/C power.
Mine came >1/2 charged which should be good for a firmware flash.
The last thing you want is for the battery to die in the middle of a firmware flash. The update takes 5 mins, so the requirement for a full charge is very conservative.
I'm not really sure how long a full charge takes. I go from very low to close to full in <90 mins.
Play while charging for 1 hr and then you can probably get the new update.

Hi

Thanks for the info. I will follow your instruction once I get it. On the NAS question, currently the Simpletech NAS allows me to Setup permanent Network Share on PC. I can also access any documents and music files from NAS by just browsing the directory structure of the share on NAS using via any web Browser and just click the desired files.

would I be able do the same from N800 using its browser? That would really help coz I could skip getting extra storage space on N800 and get everytime from my NAS. Would it automatically recognize the file type and open it appropriately, be it Mp3 or Mpg or Pdf?

Let it charge for 20-30 minutes at least before you first power it on, if you're impatient to start playing with it. Then let it continue to charge until it stops charging. I haven't actually measured it, but the charger can deliver 890mA and the battery is around 1500mAh, so it sounds like maybe 2.5 hours to me, roughly speaking.
