rumors of new pr updates don't even bother me. I've been happy with this phone since the initial release. Was messing with a iPhone 4 today. if your ssh client doesn't also support vnc viewing, you really can only have tunneling to a shell. really lame, no app has access to the underlying protocols create a local loop for ip specific traffic. Of course you can get a ssh client/server that has a built in vnc viewer, but as of right now, the viewer is lacking somewhat.

i'm just hoping they push with the N9 and put meego on it.

First of all, in spite of the used term, N900 isn't overclocked. The CPU was always meant to work at up to 1150, it was locked down by Nokia to keep a high rate of reliability and ensure thermal management. Over-clocking, as the name suggests, is raising clock tick count outside specifications.

Second of all, nice trolling. That extra centimeter of screen estate is going to blow your mind, combined with an ultra mega bright screen - unlike the N900 I keep at 40%. Oh how I wish I could have that kind of light so I can dim it to 20% instead.

Third of all, how you managed such grammar, spelling, punctuation and clarity of thought with a location set in a country that requires two fluent foreign languages for a job mixing concrete is beyond me.

IIRC, not even TI will support running the 3430 series chips past 600MHz, and they even specify a maximum safe runtime at 600MHz. Fortunately, TI's process is decently tolerant of higher clocks and you probably won't hit any issues so long as you don't spend too much time clocked up beyond 600MHz.

I'd wait for the 36xx chips (or just a litho shrink in general) before going for higher clocks anyway, simply due to the gain in power efficiency and, thus, thermal efficiencies.

They can add a nice disclaimer with big red words on it when you try to install an update from the 'devel repo' as far as I care - but GIVE ME THE OPTION TO CHOOSE! I'm a grown up ffs (even though my wife would probably claim otherwise sometimes )...
I agree - such a thing exists in the Mandriva distro.
They call it the "Cooker" which is the bleeding edge
    rolling update development repository.
Mandriva has community testing open for their pre-release
candidates and that is where they get a lot of feedback
before "betting the business" on a release.
It works well if you actually want to build a community around
    your product.
Community can make a lot noise about software flaws
and complain vigorously about development direction,
but in itself a community is also supportive and forgiving.

Nokia does not want such a community, obviously.
Their business + their product + their model = their decision.
That such a system does not exist shows a business model
    exclusively geared toward Joe-thick-as-a-brick-Sixpack market.

In that business model there is, however, no room for mistake.
Which, in my opinion, is a blunder in this new century.

MicroB beta. Modest beta. OS2008 beta. Each time Nokia has released Maemo software in a beta state and accompanied by big, bold warnings, people here have screamed. The beta software contained bugs, you see, and how could Nokia release that?

MeeGo has a good strategy. You want the latest, most open source-y, might shatter into a million pieces stuff? Run the daily builds. You like the openness, but also like your phone to ring, not dump core, when someone calls? Run the every-six-months releases. You want a fancier UI, proprietary applications, and a toll free support line to call with problems? Stick with whatever your handset manufacturer provides.

People can stray from the sanctioned, manufacturer-provided MeeGo, and manufacturer support lines can follow the lead of PC companies: "Run the restoration software we provide to wipe your machine back to a known state, then we'll talk about any remaining problems." All the neat stuff in the MeeGo repos is from the Linux Foundation, not the MeeGo handset manufacturer, so it's easier for the manufacturer to disavow knowledge and resposibility for it than it is with betas bearing the company name.

One of the Maemo Technical Speakers at Nokia World who was demonstrating how to package QT apps stated that new QT 4.7 would be included in the Next Firmware update to the N900 which would be coming very soon.

I was going to talk with him after, but I fell asleep during his presentation and forgot

TI even considers 550 and 600 MHz as "Overdrive", and 500MHz as the normal safe maximum, so you could say Nokia already overclocked the CPU by 100MHz
