Default Re: [Announce] ApMeFo (beta 0.9-5) - Create custom folders in your Application Menu

One thing I think would be good is an option to show or hide folder names, as when using a white wallpaper they cannot be seen properly if your using a clear transition.ini.
Also for users that like to change thier fonts, the ApMeFo font statys unchanged and looks out of place. I think the option to remove the text alltogether would be very handy.

Just want to say thanks to the author for this app and thanks everyone else who is looking to improve it.

Thanks a lot Hrw for continuing this small project.

What about the implementation of this:

Like Rob1n posted earlier as a bug report, naming a folder "Main" resulted in this simply overwriting settings made in the main .menu file.

Since this was prove that manipulating the main menu was possible from included files, I simply modified hildon.menu to do nothing but include a new file called apmefo.menu, which now does all the work.

In case that anything goes wrong while creating apmefo.menu, it will simply not be read by hildon, so everything reverts back to the "unallocated" behavior of the empty hildon.menu - so messing up apmefo.menu will NOT mess up the system.

That, in turn, means I can freely create layout tags on the fly, so sorting the top-level menu no longer remains a no-go!

@All: Not sure when I'll be able to finally push the next version. A week without access to a computer (other than the N900, of course ) left me with a lot of work to finish, especially since I started a not-quite private project that has been delayed for a week now, too.

But I'm on holiday next week, so I'm sure I'll get something out then (hopefully v1.1 with the sort-folder-functionality, too)!
Perhaps not the easiest change, but in my opinion the most important.

@debernardis: ah, thanks for clearing that up. Indeed I only changed the filename.

@Hrw

You should also think of making it multilingual.

//EDIT:
I just compiled your source and installed the *.deb, but Hrw_ApMeFo doesn't start... It start's loading, but then drop back to Desktop...

Exclamation Re: [Announce] ApMeFo (beta 0.9-5) - Create custom folders in your Application Menu

Ok, brave ones - here is something for testing: apmefo 0.10 by me.

UI changes:
- no tabs
- buttons easier to touch
- portrait mode (useful to re-order apps)
- add apps/select folder dialog shows 5 lines now - maybe breaks Maemo UI style guide but is more useful that way
- folder management moved to separate window (which suxx itself)

Other changes:
- packaging altered - no more lintian errors/warnings
- activate/deactivate menu entries do nothing - I did not connected code to them yet
- .desktop handling is done by ConfigParser python module - some applications will make it fail due to broken *.desktop files. So far I know tracker-cfg (author mailed) and currencyconverter (from extras) to have this issue

If you find any bug please post.

@HRW:
thx for the package
I just set up a scratchbox and did a git clone. Then I realized changes at the git repo, looked at the tread and stopped my plan to build my own packge.
Wil test now...

edit:
here comes the first bug
your parser cant handle spaces at the beginning og a new line.
after removing them from currency converter, dropn900
, tickstill your app is working.

edit2:
I just read your hole post and saw you already know about it.

flexxxv: you do not need scratchbox to build this package. I am working on it under Ubuntu - its Python so no need to compile anything.

yeah you are right i just was thinking:
source of app = i need build enviroment
just forgot that this is python

please take a look at the bug mentioned in the post before

edit:

some other things i noticed:
add app dialog is portrait only.
i can open add app dialog twice at the same time
folder edit opens in a new window wouldn't it better to have it in the same window with some kind of go back arrow at the right top instead of the close button?

feature wishes:
rename Folder
move files and folders at root screen (think there was something posted about this kn this thread)

features i don't need which could be usefull for someone else:
subfolders
rename icons

Default Re: [Announce] ApMeFo (beta 0.9-5) - Create custom folders in your Application Menu

1. add app dialog works only in one orientation - the one which app started in. It is Qt behaviour.

2. add app dialog opened multiple times - will have a look one day

3. folder opens in a new window instead of stacked one - fix is on TODO list

4. parser cant handle spaces at the beginning of a new line in desktop files - it is a bug in packages which contain such files not in ApMeFo. Will add workaround one day.

feature wishes:

1. rename Folder - maybe one day
2. move files and folders at root screen - what do you mean?
