you can flash it in win xp but with 7 there are some problems.
did you already tried the integrated format option?
go menu-settings-tap on the upper bar and choose fromat emmc
when i go to menu-settings-upper bar there is just:
restore original settings --> X
clear device --> ?
enter code to remove operator lock ---> X

if you reflash your device or format it will create a new .sounds folder.
try first clear device but maybe some files will not be deleted,if this happend you will have to reflash using the maemo flasher

thought xp would work too?but ok ill try clear device the next days when i got time...

yes but with xp you will erease everything hardcore.
you will have to start from scratch.
with the clear device function you only erease your emmc.not more.
but maybe this will help and you will not have to loose your apps and settings

ok this is exactly what i wanted
i dont want to lose the apps etc...
so if "clear device" doesnt work ill just let this folder be... too much work and not enough knowledge to do a complete flash...

flashing is really easy and it will make your phone much faster and snappier.
but its your choice.

you can backup your contacts,messages,app list with the integrated backup function(the contacts you have to export over the contacts settings)
i would say flashing is safe cause if something goes wrong you van try it another time.
its really hard to destroy your n900 software wise.
so dont worry.
and btw do you have win xp sp2 or 3?
