Works like a champ. Without the extra -e's, it wouldn't kick off pretty much (since nothing ever really gets modified--just created, renamed, moved or deleted, etc.).

I'm interested to see how the Tab can be used to replace my computer as well. I know that I can load Ubuntu on it, which is a major plus, though I suspect I will only be using the CLI. For many of my traditional tasks this is great -- I just need access to certain linux commands that I have grown dependent upon.

I typically only use a text editor, office suite, pdf viewer, web browser, mp3 player, video player, e-reader, ssh client, vector editor (inkscape), when on the road. The Tab seems to be able to be able to handle everything except the vector editor! Also, inkscape is a bit of a computational hog, so I would be reluctant to use it on a cortex A8. So for extended away-from-my-desk scenarios, I would need to take a laptop.

However, if I'm gone for a day or two (which is by and large the majority of my travels), then the Tab should be enough to hold me over until I'm once again facing a traditional terminal. Again, this will have to be a wait and see type of thing.

In short, I doubt the Tab can replace my laptop for all tasks, but I suspect it will be able to replace it for many of my mobile tasks, and even many tasks around the office and around the house.

This is great! Glad that it worked for you, and hopefully you're home-theater setup is that much more convenient!

As a tip: you can also delay the response if inotifywait using the -t flag with the amount of delay in seconds. This is good for very active directories where you want to delay inotifywait from firing after every event!

I currently use the N900 (really portable), laptop (portable), and a desktop (not portable) for my computing solutions. As I transition from a student to a full-time for real (not just summer) position I don't think I'll need the tools I have currently.

So I am thinking for me it would be smartphone, tablet, desktop. Or smartphone, tablet, laptop (connected to a wireless keyboard station with a desktop sized monitor).

Part of the trouble for me is deciding the role of the tablet. But more on that later.

I become aware of the heft of the Q7 after a while and it gets distracting while reading.

Just to conclude this aspect of the devices, here are the respective weights:-

iPad 730g
SmartQ 7 480 g
Galaxy Tab 380g
Dell Streak 220g

The Tab certainly meets the limits of one hand holdability very comfortably.

BTW have I ever said how much I love the Streak?

The tab size suits me much better than ipad size because I suspect I will use an internet tablet mostly lying down in bed or on the couch. I would also be able to carry it on any journeys where I have a bag. Or let's say I am driving to a friend or relative's place. I can walk to car holding it, chuck it in the place you open by the hand brake (can't remember the name) and when I get to the house I am going to carry it in with me and use it to browse the net there from time to time. If I did that with the ipad it would look weird and they will wonder whether I am showing off carrying around such a massive device.

There is also the small chance it could fit into my jeans pockets (side ones not rear). Will have to give it a try. Think should easily fit into the pockets of my two pairs of baggy jeans. Maybe I will have to switch exclusively to baggy jeans when this comes out.

I think this sums up why I love the 7" size. It's the chuck-ability of the device. Due to its size, it's great for much less formal sessions. I could be looking something up *while* walking out the door and not skip a beat, or look at the thing while walking around the house comfortably. I can also quickly chuck it in a bag or slot, when need my attention elsewhere.

Me too.
It's only about the size of a book which I believe would make it perfect for in bed and on the sofa especially when my partner hogs the sky remote!

I feel the IPad at 10 inches is just slightly too big for what I want and to be perfectly honest apple products have never really done it for me. The Tab excites me and with keeping my N900 then I get the best of both.
