Thats because the original app manager is running in the background. You can't have two managers running at the same time.

my issue went away after the reboot. something transient i guess.

i just tried installing something on fapman and application manager was not open.

the error message is:

"Faster Application Manager Error: Unknown error - see log for details"

It could be running in the background which means you can't see it.

look in the log.. you find it in the program menu of fapman or open it with "leafpad /root/.fapman/lastlog.txt"

i closed the application manager though; it shouldn't it not be running in the background?

what exactly does the "apt-get update" function do?

after entering that, it the last line says:
"W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems"
is this an error?

apt-get update updates the repository info. it seems that you have duplicate repositories. go to application manager and disable every repository and exit. after that enable repositories one by one as long as things work and when it stops working, you know where the problem is if it lies in repositories.

It shouldn't but could..

If you try

1. sudo gainroot
2. apt-get install leafpad

and gets an error post it here.. Post the fapman log too.

And

1. leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list
