Hey Man! I think it worked I no longer get the "auto installer broke something which should never happen message" unfortunately it was not because of the command you have me AlMehdi I just uninstalled Geweled and no messages with exclamation marks in the app man log. Thanks guys

My only issue now is how did all those apps I installed took up all that room. The biggest files I have installed are Angry Birds, Tower Bloxx (free), Zen Bound (also free) and Brain Evolution but they seriously can't take up 1.2gigs, and in my "opt" folder. And in my "opt" folder I'm seeing a folder "themes" with files from themes I un-installed before and also from "faster app man" some cache files that take up 7megs. the list goes on on stuff just in there for no purpose and I can't delete them with cute explorer

Try Filebox instead.. it's the new diva of filemanagers

If you have bash installed this would tell you which you 20 biggest files are:

du -a / | sort -nr | head -n 20

Filebox is still in development I don't want to install it, I used storage usage and the tree view helps me see what the biggest files are already.

hmm.. ok. You could use "ls -laS /", "ls -laS /home/user" or "ls -laS /home/opt"to se your biggest folder/file in different locations. I am not aware how good Storage usage work.

And then use "rm -r" to remove them. You need to be root to do that. But be careful.. if you write wrong you could remove files you didn't want to remove.

for me this list isn't straigh forward so after entering "rm -r" what would I have to do? I'm guessing I'll have to type in the file/folder name in which case is it ok if I use the names I see in CuteExplorer? e.g. in my opt there's a folder called "themes" with themes i downloaded from Ovi but umimstalled, so if it is I'm asked for a folder or file name then just type in "themes". I would enter the command and see for myself but I'm trying to be very cautious.

thank you for your patience

That was pretty strange... it says the owner is 501 and group staff. When it should be root. Maybe cause you installed them from Ovi..

However.. to remove them all you would need to write
1. sudo gainroot
2. rm -r /home/opt/themes

But be very careful about your spelling. "rm -r /" would wipe everything on your n900. If you do not want to remove all the themes from the themes folder. Then you will have to look inside and change #2 to that folder.

in "themes" there are other folders named after the themes I installed so will that mean the command I enter will be "rm -r /home/opt/themes/sunset" if sunset is one of the folders in the "themes" folder? I think I'm getting the hang of this stuff

Yep, that is correct.. and if you have notised the "tab" key in the footer of terminal. It will complete words.. i.e. if you start writing "rm -r /home/opt/themes/sun[tab]" it will finish the word. If it gives you nothing you could double tab (it could be more than one word starting with "sun"). If you write "rm -r /home/opt/[tab][tab]" it will show what's in that folder. That way you can make sure you do not misspell anything.

rm = for singular file or files in a folder
rm -r = recursively remove all that is below the folder (i.e. if you want it to remove all files and subfolders).
