As for KaKaRoTo, jailbreaking is legal as long as it's not used for piracy, the code is free and open source, he's not making any benefits from it.
I can see them losing this case.
yeah, i'm just warning you guys, that there could be harassment from Sony incoming... Sony asked the judge to give them permission to start trying to shut down the teams and find identities of the hackers. this was 2 weeks ago and we just clued in now, so if nothing has happened yet i'd say it's a good sign. read file 12 "proposed order" in the link above. the last item, #6.
"the code is free and open source"
this is not necessarily true. the problem is that the exploit is actually based on sony's repair jig, and we are reverse engineering something made by other hackers, so we are not 100% sure that we aren't incorporating something they can claim is "stolen" or "copyrighted". microsoft pulled this **** by putting their logo into the security sector of xbox360 hard drives, for example. anyways, i'm sure you are fine, but i am worried for KakaRoTo, hopefully he has made himself hard to find....
Maemo is such a small market, doubt they'll reach here even if they are raiding many places.
Also, it means they have to also go after every iphone/htc/android/calculator/sixasxis etc etc creators. lol
