Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share that I finally ordered the N800 and a 1GB SD card for 250€ which is a reasonable price.... in Europe...

The current price is actually 350-400€ here, what I got was a special deal which involves waiting until the end of October though until the N800 finally arrives here. It is not an US unit so that I can use channel 12 and 13 WiFis as well.

Anyway, is there a good "get started" manual? I'd like to install some software on it, like an MSN and ICQ messenger and maybe an online poker program.

Are there any other hints and tricks which I as a beginner should know?

Thanks everyone,

Phil

Hi,

don't you think you can get one imported from US at $220
still at a lower price EU tax/vat included ?
And you don't have tyo wait until the end of October.
WiFi channels are not an issue as in EU you can still use EU licenced WiFi channelss.

Pigdin has compatibility with various messaging services, but I doubt you can get an online poker program running. Unless you run it remotely with some other computer doing the real work. The main tip is to appreciate it for the many things it can do; don't scorn it for the things it isn't yet ready to do.

That is unfortunatly not true. I wouldn't have been the first German/European who imported an US unit just to figure out that he can't connect to channel 12 and 13 Wifis.

This issue of US units not being able to connect to 12/13 WiFis was discussed here as well, no solution has been found so far.

That's very strange. It would have to be some kind of hardware difference between the units then, because they all use the exact same firmware.

Anyway, where can I get new applications for my N800? And: Is it rocket science to install new software on it ?

It's not rocket science unless you want it to be. You have, in Tools/ Application manager, a way to install more stuff. But you will at some point start adding directories to it specifying where new software is added. Some of that gets added automatically, and I got a long ways just clicking on the word Software at the top of this page and installing stuff from that catalog. If something won't install, don't worry about it and come back to it later.

Have fun!
