For backup the whole phone and probably updating maps I would like to connect it in Vista to its connection suite. But unfortunately there seems to be no way to do so with latest PC connection suite nor Ovi suite. The phone is not detected when connected via USB. However the drivers are working and I am able to use it as a modem and so on. Even if I want to reinstall any related software it states that there is a device currently connected.
I tried all combinations like purge and reinstall all suites and specific moments of attaching the device, I emailed the customer support (without response). But the phone is never detected.
Sometime there is a interactive service dialog screen appearing with the error code 0x80044403.
Any suggestions, do you have such problems on your OS as well?
Is it possible to circumstance the suites? Can I make a recoverable backup somehow else?

Ovi Suite version: 2.2.1.23
Driver version: 7.1.32.57

Thanks for your hints
Thomas

i can answer you about the back up. You can make a backup of the applications contacts e-mails etc with the application called back-up on the phone. i whould sugest you take this file off the device by connecting your cell phone in mass storage mode (when you connect it to your pc a dialog appears on the phones screen) and navigating to a folder called back up. You may need this back up if your device stops working and you have to reflash your phone or if you want to take a new device(n900). Beware that ONLY the list of applications will be backed up not the apps themselves. After you restore from it app manager will download them through the internet.

if your phone is not recognised on your pc you might consider uploading the back up to a eg dropbox account in order to be accesible from all your devices

you can do a back up from the phone itself just go to menu and back up if your phone fails you will be able to restore your contacts mails etc.
go to menu backup and run the app (from your phone)

after that connect to your pc via mass storage mode and navigate to F:\backups copy the folder inside to your pc

you wont be able to back up your phone through the pc suite because n900 is not fully compatible with it
