I have been using the FM transmitter on my N900 to stream internet radio in my car. It was one of my favorite features, but quite working yesterday and I can't figure out why.

My car radio picks of the "beep" signal when the FM transmitter is turned on. However, when I start streaming a station, my radio just has silence. If I turn off the FM transmitter, music from the streaming station plays through the N900 speakers.

Anyone else had this issue? Any ideas? The "beep beep" signal I get leads me to believe the transmitter is working and it is some sort of software issue with the media player playback..

The Transmitter is known to reduce it's output power when connected to a charger. Try installing fm-boost and check if that helps.

If it does, you can also install the fmtx applet. If I remember correctly this has an option to automatically activate the fm-boost when available.

(If that doesn't work you could always try out some lesser-used frequencies )

I had a similar seemingly random transmitter problem - the following thread may help

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=44893

I have FM tx desktop widget and FMboost installed - works fine every day now!

Hope you get it sorted

Well, my software is definitely screwed up somehow. There is just silence broadcast over FM via my media player. If I shut down the media player, I pick up the "beep beep" signal on my radio. The strength of the signal is not the problem. The problem is that silence is broadcast when the media player is running. Any ideas?

Are you using the standard built in media player? I had issues with MediaBox when I first installed it and Symfonie doesn't seem to work at all over fmtransmitter....

If the issue is with standard media player perhaps try playing something from the web (you tube or something) and see if that works or maybe install MediaBox

[QUOTE=velox;587168]The Transmitter is known to reduce it's output power when connected to a charger.

You might say is just kills the TX totally.

The other day i was using the FMTX (with boost) at home, and my bedroom stereo (approx. 6 feet away) could barely pick up the signal when pointed the right side of the phone towards the stereo.
When i connected the charger, the reciever lost the signal from the N900. On this ground i concluded that the "antenna" is located at the left side, right next to the charger-connector!

So charging your N900 smartphone...uh, scuse me... internet tablet while using the FM transmitter (without losing signal strenght) seems to be impossible.

I would say, just make sure your battery is charged enough to transmit a steady FM-signal for the time it's needed.

The FM-TX and FM-boost apps are working great btw

The other day I plugged in the charger in my car, and I didn't notice the lowered FM signal strength until I drove on a road where another radio station can be heard on the same frequency, then it started breaking up a bit..

Are you using the standard FMTX or did you modify it in any way - say, by following any of the advice in the "unlock your radio transmitter" (or whatever it's called) thread?
