My N900's app manager has been unable to access the Extras-devel repository for at least the past day. I am however able to browse to the repository's URL without a problem.

1. Any reason the app manager is unable to find the repo when I can browse to it?

2. Is there some way I can install the app when the app manager can't access the repo? I was able to download/install the .deb, but the app didn't show up in the app grid presumably because the N900 didn't know about its icon.

Thanks!

Depends what error you're getting when updating the repository. Certainly you shouldn't get DNS or connection errors in App Manager if you can browse to it on the N900.

You can download and install an app directly either by opening i directly from the download (in which case it should launch App Manager and install it), or by saving it and opening it from File Manager (again, it'll launch App Manager and install it), or by saving and using "dpkg -i" as root. Any of these will give exactly the same result as installing via App Manager (except for handling dependencies). If it's not showing up in the app grid, it's either because the install failed to happen (e.g. you closed App Manager down before it'd finished), or it's not a GUI app (in which case it may well not have an icon).

I have a root package installed, but can't recall which one. Basically it allows me to just type "root" and get su access.

The app manager basically says that some catalogs are unavailable. Clicking on Extras-devel, shows the following below the catalog details:

http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...armel/Packages 404 Not Found [IP:...]

The app in question is System Event Scheduler (SES). I downloaded the .deb, opened it in file manager, and then saw "1 application successfully installed" in the app manager. No icon however appears in the grid.

It certainly sounds like it installed properly. I think that one just shows up in the Settings app rather than appearing in the grid - have you looked in there?

Also, the reason that SES is missing an icon and doesn't actually open has been discussed here

Thanks! I'd been searching on the full name and hadn't found that thread. Too bad it's been abandoned.

The freemantle typo was mine when typing the post.
