I think that this "5 step" plan is the most interesting bit of info to come from Nokia about the NIT path so far.

I'm assuming that the 810 is step 3.

If the n800 really has been "underclocked" and the new os will rectify that, then there really is no reason at all to "upgrade" to n810.

If step 4 continues os compatibility with n800/n810 surely we can assume that it won't have massive hardware difference in terms of processing power etc.

Might be than the n800 will do me til step 5!

Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing multicore in an internet tablet anytime soon.

I think with step 4 we'll see more integration with mobiles, ala Foleo, and a bigger focus on blogging.

I meant it for generation 5. (IT OS 2010) I think in 2 years there could be quadcores in the internet tablet.

Here's a German articel about ARMs new quads:

step 4: more hardware (camera/Wimax/n/more internal storage)
step 5: edge rounding / cost cutting

they're probably also waiting for component sizes to come down and hardware efficiency to go up so they can deliver something that's only a tiny bit bigger than the screen but still packs more features and power than the 810.

Getting the platform in front of geeks is a great way to build up a software library that will be able to do anything by the time they have form-factor and price that the public will go for.

As I've said: the tablet platform is steadily advancing much like the PC did-- just in a VERY compressed (naturally) timeframe.

4. compatibility with s60: blur the lines with existing s60 products and create transition path for upgrade.
5. compatibility with n-gage

PS: It's obvious that the biggest downfall of NIT platform is the loony crowd it has (so far) attracted :P
