Well the time has come for me to purchase a new battery for my n900 and was wondering iv there are any genuine higher capacity batteries out there without needing new rear cover.
Have seen some 1930mAh batteries but surly these can not give out that amperage, Hase anyone tried these ?
I just ordered that Battery - paying with paypal.
If the battery has way less than 1930mAh i will return it.
I ordered some "original" Nokia Batt. from Honkong - the cheaper one realy has almost 1300mAh, the slightly more expensive has 880mAh.
I use the "Desktop Command Execution Widget" to see the Battery capacity in mAh.
I don't know if it's really reliable - so far it seems, as if it was giving an appropriate value.
Ok, report then what you did get. Because it is the same size as the original battery, I highly doubt you won't get any more than the original BL-5J 1320 mAh +/- some 10%.
There is no empty space in the original BL-5J battery, it fills the N900 battery slot completely. So only way to get more capacity in that same space would be to use some other type of chemistry than Lithium-Ion. And then it becomes a question could N900's charger suipport this new type of battery.
If you really need bigger battery, Mugen 2400mAh battery with bigger back cover is the only proven solution.

design.capacity value is whatever the battery tells the N900 it is. In other words, the manufacturer of the battery can make it say whatever they want.
I can vote for a 'normal' capacity Japod battery, here : http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32398. Lasts more or less the same time, reports a tiny bit less mAh than the Nokia original one and is a bargain for $8.84, incl. shipping.
Easy to carry a spare one around, as I normally do when going out or expecting to be long time away from a power socket.
