Opera will obviously not work. I don't know anything about IcedTea. But with Easy Debian, java should work.

If I understand correctly, Easy Debian is a Debian OS ran through virtualization on top of Maemo, and as such you have most of the possibilities of a full desktop OS. It is easy to install and will not break your current OS, but it may take some time since it's a big download.
