What's the profiling output when you skip tracks?
Are there any long delays measured?

I have 1161 now. Not really better. I have loading in the status bar all in the time.
It takes long to load the cover. When it is updated, skipping works direcly.

1162 improves the loading time of the list.
Is the cover embedded or an image file?

300dpi)?

That's possible. Flash memory isn't the fastest to read files from.

Anyway, playlists with thousands of files shouldn't be much problem anymore with the latest SVN version.
