Have tried editing config.dat to make t=up and g=down but when i run game is still up/down default controls . any idea ? removed word 'up' for letter t (or any letter) and likewise for down but even though saves only default applies...

1) Maybe you edit this file *while* the program is runnung? Thus, it will overwrite settings on exit.
2) Try to delete /home/user/.xmoto folder completely, run the game, quit and then edit the config.dat again.
Hi divan, great work on the new updates there. Nice to see this in the repos. I will update/re wite the original post a little later after work.
@moepda: I found that the congig.dat file is case sensitive. Have you tried using capital X, G, F Up and Down?
@f2thak: I too have noticed this? It appears as though the QBW still believes the program is still running some how. We are still able to launch the game from XTerm as normal. This issue was not present in the last update, could it be possible that some kill process is not registering divan?

But could you please check if following works:
1) Delete folder /home/user/.xmoto completely (rm -rf /home/user/.xmoto from the terminal)
2) Run game, then quit.
3) Edit config.dat and run game again.

no luck, does it matter how i edit config?
my current steps are
open CuteExplorer
find config.dat
rename config.dat to config.txt
edit with notepad
rename back to dat
run xmoto

I have just tried these settings with both CAPS and Lower case . The config.dat file IS case sensitive, you need to use Z/A/Up/Down etc otherwise the game will not recognise the changes you have made and stick with the previous settings
