Thanks for testing and giving feedback on the trunk!
I'm going to test with large cover arts to finally solve this problem.
The latest SVN trunk has some improvements for loading large playlists.
Even a list with > 1000 items should now load within a few moments.

Maybe you should provide a daily build for the users who don't
have a sdk. Maybe you get more feedback.

That would be an option and I want to do that one day, hopefully soon.

But actually you don't need the SDK as you can install subversion on the device and check out the code on the device.
No further installing is required.

Is anybody able to play the video podcasts from www.cczwei.de with
mediabox? An example video is:

I tried mafw and mplayer as backend, but it failed while buffering.

The long skipping times seem really to be caused by the cover art.
Skipping without covers takes about 1 second. Skipping with covers
takes about 6 seconds. Do you think, that this is caused by converting
the cover? The most covers were used earlier and mediabox already
created an item in the album folder. I don't think, that this is caused
by the sdhc card.

In order to rule out the lagginess of MAFW or other media backends as a cause for the delays, the latest SVN version comes with a "Simulator" media backend, which remains silent and just simulates the behavior of a backend.
It can be selected in the Settings.

It plays with MediaBox (GStreamer backend) on my laptop but indeed not on the N900.

Edit: looks like a codec problem on the N900.

No mp4 video on the N900? I don't know, what codecs are used exactly.

MP4 comes in different flavours. The N900 does not support all of them, but only a subset.
