Once upon a time I had an application that would allow me to have my icons to snap to an invisible grid resulting in nicely aligned desktop elements.

This was lost when PALCO refreshed my N900 during repair. I've looked through Application Manager, the Desktop talk topics and searched Download and Talk using several various terms and have come up dry.

Can someone please point me toward this useful program?

Thank you, that is exactly what will do it. I do not recall if that was the app I used earlier but Tweakr will do the job nicely.

You might want to try Theme Customizer as well.
