You seriously think Maemo is not more desktop-like than Android/iPhone/Symbian?.
It gives you more freedom to do what you want than all other phones.

Tell me which phone allows shell scripting throughout. (even make calls via scripts)
What allows constant playing of divx/youtube vids in background while multi-tasking.

I'm glad it's not so simplified like iPhone or other OS's.

OS imo is better than any other mobile phone OS even in PR1.2 form.
I just wish N900 had more RAM, bigger LCD and better CPU. That's all.

Maemo is rough on the edges. It is a bit dangerous. It is open to experiments. It is about community involvement. I want these to stay. I do not like boring cars, either.
I think this says it all. Problem is that it has been marketed as a smartphone, and 80% of people here still believe Maemo/MeeGo is a smartphone OS or that it should be.

ie. what you people really want (for some odd reasons that I cannot comprehend), is a sleek OS like iOS or Android, but you forget that to shape it into that requires a dictator with no regards for experiments or community involvement whatsoever.

Tablet. Ahem. I wanted it to be a tablet OS. You know.. what this line was up until someone decided to call the N900 a phone.. before they decided to backtrack and call it a computer after figuring it that it was an awful phone.

the n900 is not on top of any list
please rethink.

the n900 is in its own class

apple. droids and the palms are all in another class
and amongst themselfs they are wangking over each
other for 1st position.
let them be number one coz the fact still remains that
n900 is still sitting pretty in a class OF IT's OWN.

I currently own iPhone4, Nokia N900 and N8. (had N8 for 3 days now)
Workmates have Galaxy S, HTC HD2 and Desire.

N900 lacks 720p video capabilities, small screen, weaker camera than N8, less apps etc.

But to me, N900 is still the best. LOL. It just is.
I browse web heaps, write lots of forum posts, watch heaps of videos etc.
Using mplayer + SiB on N900 with keyboard controls just can't be beaten imo.

So the next-gen MeeGo phone from Nokia better beat the N900 in every way or I'll be annoyed big time.

lol. I guess you can call me a fanboi. But I do have valid reasons.
I'm not saying it's the best for other people anyways. Just best for me.
It's not like I haven't used every other phone out there either.

Sold mine, got tired of email and calendar not working properly and to many bugs.
Pitty, otherwise it is pretty good internals and great potential.

It is a bit pathetic that my x10mini has a better keayboard than this phone. It is half the size.
