i have installed and updated my phone software to PR 1.3 yesterday and i could not find any option to change the screen orientation to automatic or portrait mode even now. So guys please tell me is there any way that i change the orientation for the whole phone like even for my desktop and not just for some few applications like email and phone.

No idea why you are looking for such an option coz it does not exists and it probabaly never will. Maybe PR1.4? doubt it.

@jakiman the reason why i am looking for such an option is becuase it would be more convenient to use the phone with one hand like but now when it is landscape it is a bit tough to use it with one hand.

You didn't read much before buying the phone did you?
N900 never has a full portrait mode and that's one the most talked about issues that both fans and haters gripe on.

The only thing I have that goes into portrait/landscape mode automatically is the browser (under settings, there is a box to check called Enable Rotation) and the phone dialer (there is a button called turning control).

You may refer to tips 46 and 53 of "N900: Useful Tips (a summary) " for turning active app/browser into portrait mode without changing corresponding options.

Tip 46 is most used and recommended. Tip 53 is insane, but it really works. If you are up to challenge...
