you will have to replace that name with the actual filename including path if it is in a different directory

as in the description firmware images are:
    http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
and for uk(i don't know what is special about uk but..)
    http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_UK_variant_firmware
    ---

    otherwise

    ---
you find all kernel in the repository
    http://repository.maemo.org/

    e.g. the standard kernel:
    http://repository.maemo.org/pool/fre...free/k/kernel/
if you like me to lazy to search for the fiasko(it is somwhere.. ) you do:
    ---
    ar kernelwhatever.deb
    chdir kernelwhatever
    tar xzf data.tar.gz
    --
OR you just use some grafical unpack program like winrar or whatever you have that can unpack ar and tar(same copression type) to get the fiasko out of the deb. (this is click-click.. done)

if you found the fiaskos you are fine and don't need to unpack anything. flash.

like i said i just don't want to search where they hide them(i know it exists). so only because of that i use the debian package. there is nothing mysterious or special about a .deb its just like a zip or rar. you have to unpack it like you unpack a zip. twice.
my world is 80X25 in black and white, so i do it on the command line. you can do it with whatever you are used to(i think winrar does it).

    well, easy enough?

wait! now your phone works again. but you made it work behind its back. nobody likes things happening behind ones back neither do phones.

go to the programmanager and install the kernel you just flashed.
might sound dangerous after your expierience but you want the system to be completely in a sane state. otherwise in a couple of days/weeks the thing updates and the other kernel that gave you the trouble gets installed again half ways as you had it. you don't want that.
